Senior forward Sydney Rivers was ready from the start of Loranger’s game against Warren Easton in the Allstate Sugar Bowl National Prep Classic on Wednesday at the Alario Center.
Her teammates soon joined in.
Rivers scored eight of her game-high 14 points in the first quarter, as the Wolves gained control early on their way to a 48-33 victory in a Platinum Bracket game.
“We’re a much different team when we can get a couple of buckets early,” Loranger coach Sean Shields said. “She made some shots to kind of get us going, which was not very expected of Sydney. But then her confidence spread to the rest of the group.”
Loranger (8-6) led 10-4 at the end of the first quarter. With teammates Linsey Ard and Jamya Mingo-Young joining in, the Wolves led 26-10 at halftime.
