Sports NOLA – A pair of championship games from the sixth annual Allstate Sugar Bowl National Prep Classic will be featured this week on the latest edition of the First NBC Bank Prep Showcase.
The title games in the girls platinum bracket and the boys division will be streamed live on SportsNOLA.com beginning at 6:30 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 9). The girls platinum final will re-air Monday (Jan. 11) at 4 p.m. on WHNO TV 20, with the boys championship to be broadcast at 5 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 12).
Since its infancy in 2011, the Allstate Sugar Bowl National Prep Classic has grown to be one of the top events on the area high school calendar. Last year’s tournament featured Florida powerhouse Montverde Academy, which was led by current LSU freshman Ben Simmons. A record 46 teams – 14 boys and 32 girls – are participating in this year’s event.
Ken Trahan (play-by-play) and Bill Gallagher (analyst) will serve as the broadcast team for the two championship games.
Since its inception in the spring of 2012, the First NBC Bank Prep Showcase on WHNO and SportsNOLA has presented nearly 75 high school football, basketball, baseball and wrestling events. This year’s schedule will feature up to 25 televised events, in addition to up to 35 web-only events on SportsNOLA. New Orleans-based First NBC Bank is once again the title sponsor of the package.
